Five. That’s the age girls are starting to count past 10, do somersaults and learn the difference between real and make-believe. For Black girls, that’s also the age they’re starting to experience race-based hair discrimination for the first time. In close collaboration with emerging director Aisha Ford, we created a film to jolt people into taking action. This is Phoenix’s story—inspired by far too many real stories.
